We did a couple of things differently in our summer issue, and I’d say the chances are high you haven’t spotted ‘em yet! 1) It’s our habit to run a class year after the name each time we mention a current student or an alum, like this: Rachel Mueller ’14, Mayor Jim Schmitt ’80. Works just fine if you confine your subjects to the last 96 years. But we were founded in 1898 and, this issue we happened to mention the Rev. Anselm Keefe, O.Praem., who graduated in 1916. Get this – we have the Class of 2016 studying on campus right now, so you can see the chance of confusion. New line in the college stylebook, new practice in the magazine: “Alums whose graduation date is more than 96 years ago (ie: before the anticipated graduation date of the incoming first-year class) are indicated with this formula: the Rev. Anselm Keefe, O.Praem., Class of 1916. (See Cranes on Campus.) 2) We have master’s grads, too – and, these days, in some numbers.
